I actually live in the 2nd of two homes author Elvira Garner owned in Sanford, FL. After moving here some 14 years ago, I was surprised by a visit from her son who told me stories about her and asked if he and his wife might come in to see the place once more. Mr. Garner said that Elvira had originally lived around 4th St. on the opposite side of S. Park Ave. from me. She felt that the home had become too large for her and traded her 2 story home with another family for the one story home I now occupy. Before they entered our home, a Mockingbird landed close by; Mr. Garner was very moved by it saying that the day he arrived home from the war a Mockingbird had greeted him outside before his mother knew he was home. The Garners also shared with me that they were married in front of our fireplace. I was so happy I hadn't yet made changes to the old red brick fireplace and that it was as they had remembered it. A few weeks later, a copy of the Garner's wedding photo arrived with a thank you note for allowing them to visit. It was for me a great joy to learn that another writer and painter - like myself - had lived here and created something beloved in our historic home setting. I, too, would love copies of Elvira Garners books to display in my foyer. It would be a creative way to keep alive her memory and share the charm, history and writings of one of Sanford's notable citizens.

When this was written, economy was deathly in Southwest Florida but things have picked up there, yet areas in the middle of the state (other than orlando) are still depressed. Still, there are real estate deals everywhere, except at the top of the market.

Cheap Florida homes might make one a little skeptical in today’s market, However not the case when you look at things closer. Mortgage Rates – Between incentives from the government, low prices and some of the lowest mortgage rates this country has seen in years, now is the time to invest. The coasts stay slightly cooler in the summer because of sea breezes; and can be hot and humid during summer with frequent thunderstorms.

Here is the building that I am near certain was Murray Franklins. I went inside a couple years ago and it was nearly the same set up as in photos I have (old Miami Beach postcard) of how it looked way back when.
